Smart YouTube TV is a complete reimplementation of the standard Youtube app. It's primarily intended for smart TVs running Android as well as Android-based streaming boxes which offer similar functionality. It should also run on most Android devices. But keep in mind that it's been primarily designed around input devices similar to remote controls. You can use a device's touch screen to control Smart Youtube TV. But it's far easier and more user-friendly to use an actual physical control with it.

Smart YouTube TV can be most easily thought of as a replacement for the standard YouTube app. It's able to load up and play the same videos that the standard YouTube app provides. It can even work with your playlists, favorites and watch history from YouTube. But the app provides an interface that's far more in line with what users want from their TV.

Smart YouTube TV does require a little more tweaking than a standard YouTube app installation. The first thing you'll notice on starting the app is a request about your screen resolution. This is primarily just a choice between 1080 and 4k.

You'll also find that Smart YouTube TV offers a more relaxed viewing experience. You can use a remote control to easily navigate through playlists. And once videos have been launched you can control them just as easily. You won't even have the same amount of interruptions from advertisements and delays that you would when watching video through the standard app.

While Smart YouTube TV can work with your YouTube account this isn't a requirement. You can always use the app without logging into your Youtube or Google account. And the same goes for any guests you might invite over. The app makes it easy to log in and out of your YouTube account so that any guests using it won't change your viewing history. You can also cast YouTube videos to Smart YouTube TV right from your phone. All you need to do is select an active Smart YouTube TV installation and share videos as you would with the standard YouTube app.

Developers will also enjoy the fact that Smart YouTube TV is fully open source. This gets around one of the major issues with YouTube reimplementations. Smart YouTube TV loads up the YouTube website in the background. This is similar to how you'd load YouTube in a web browser.

The app will then look for video links and useful information. It then fits and reformats this information into its own native interface. But there's always a chance that YouTube might change the layout of that information in the future. This would normally make it impossible for an app like Smart YouTube TV to access that data. But the fact that Smart YouTube TV is open source means anyone can update the app to align with any changes in YouTube.
